Well, I for one appreciate the fact that he lent his name to our State "teaching college" (once upon a time), and take it as a bonus that he loved the boys...

This isn't a direct response to anything you've said, William Tell, but Wow, it'll be so NICE when this thread decays and we get back back to talking about music. There is so much rage and anger here. It's not as if any of it will change anybody's minds about whatever they believe, feel, or just plain KNOW. I gotta tell ya, last Friday I had root canal surgery - really, I did! - but reading my bill didn't cause me half the pain of reading the Red State vs. Blue State rage and bitterness that's been typed over the last few days. How does the saying go? "Those who fail to learn the lessons of History are doomed to re-learn them in summer school." Sheesh! But, considering how many posters to this forum seem to actually HATE specific members of The Dead with unvarnished rage, I'm not all that baffled that the death of ANYONE significant is a cause for spleen venting. I need some perspective on this so I'm heading back to my film about the Miami "Dark Star" from 1989-10-26. No - thank YOU!

Yeah--sorry; guilty as charged...

I must admit, I often end up having some interesting exchanges from a purely historical perspective with others that chime in...like BB and I ending up sharing views on McNam, or talking with SpFace about imperialism and the Mid East.

But, scanning it all today, I must beg forgiveness for all the time and space wasted on this and the distraction from more appropriate BIZ at hand.

Hopefully folks had better things to do!

thanks for understanding...

You're NOT guilty nor charged; I usually avoid heated discussions since they never provide any real clarity or resolution. I was just stunned at how huge this thread had become. If famous people had any IDEA how much anger occurs wen they die, maybe they'd take better care of themselves. I mean, people still get into fistfights over the whole Mozart vs. Beethoven thing!
